Pregnancy Q & A
When should I seek pregnancy care?
To have a healthy and happy pregnancy, you need to get pregnancy care early and regularly. The team at ObGyne Birth Center for Natural Deliveries determines when you should schedule your first pregnancy visit based on your specific prenatal care needs. However, the first appointment is usually scheduled about eight weeks after the first day of your last menstrual period.
The first visit to the office is usually the most extensive. During this visit, your provider reviews your medical and gynecological history, confirms that you’re pregnant and calculates your due date, and conducts a physical and pelvic exam. Your provider may also perform a urinalysis and blood tests to assess your health further and direct your pregnancy care needs.
What can I expect during prenatal care?
The team at ObGyne Birth Center for Natural Deliveries take a holistic approach to pregnancy and focuses on helping you have a natural delivery at their birthing center. In addition to the board-certified OB/GYNs, the team also includes midwives who provide you with the education and tools you need for a healthy and natural pregnancy experience.
You can expect regular visits to the office for routine follow-up after your initial evaluation. The frequency of your visits depends on the stage of your pregnancy. You may only need to come to the office once a month through week 28 and then twice a month through week 36. After 36 weeks, your provider may request you come to the office each week until delivery.
In addition to routine tests and monitoring, including ultrasounds and the glucose tolerance test for gestational diabetes, the team at ObGyne Birth Center for Natural Deliveries also offers prenatal nutrition classes and childbirth classes.
Am I a good candidate for a natural birth?
Your provider at ObGyne Birth Center for Natural Deliveries determines if you’re a good candidate for the natural birthing center during your pregnancy evaluations. To be considered a good candidate, your pregnancy must be low risk.
ObGyne Birth Center for Natural Deliveries is the first physician-led birthing center in the state of Georgia. If you qualify, the team uses only nitrous oxide to ease any discomfort, and you should be discharged home within six to eight hours of delivery.
If there are risks that complicate a natural birth, the experienced team will still provide the pregnancy care you need throughout your entire gestation. However, they will refer you to a hospital for the delivery of your baby.
